Travel Passports

If you have wanderlust in your bones and you are intent on seeing the world, you will need a passport. There was a time when you could travel to Mexico and Canada without a passport, but the rules have changed. Now you do.

A passport gives you permission to travel outside the borders of the United States. You can move about the United States without permission, but if you leave America, you’ll need a passport to get into any foreign country, and you’ll need a passport to get back into the United States.

Everyone who travels outside the United States must have a passport, including children. Applying for a passport requires you to follow a certain set of rules.

Adults over the age of 16 applying for their first passport must complete form DS-11, provide two identical 2 x 2 color photos, proof of citizenship (birth certificate), proof of identity (driver’s license), and pay $100.00.

In order for a child to be issued a passport, all of the above criteria must be met, PLUS a second form (DS-3053) must be completed and proof of the

adult’s relationship to the child as well as proof of the adult’s identity must be provided. A passport for a child costs $85.00.

You can get complete information about acquiring new or renewing passports at website: travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738_2.html.

In our world, where war and terrorism are realities, getting a passport is a rather long and complicated process. Getting a passport in countries other than the United States is a much longer and more difficult process. Even in America, it’s much more difficult than it once was, but it isn’t hard to see why all countries including the United States wants to know the identity and intentions of foreigners traveling in the country.
