Choosing Hotel Accommodations

Hotel accommodations are important when we travel. A hotel room is our home away from home a place to hang our hat, our base of operations. The

Internet overflows with pictures of gorgeous hotel accommodations. Slick pictures of extreme opulence can be tantalizing. The idea of stepping into all of that luxury is very tempting, but wait just a minute.

Before you book your hotel accommodations, ask yourself what is the single most important factor for you personally. Is price your primary factor, or does location trump price? Is a pool for the kids more important than location? Would soaking up a little of the local charm be the most important factor in your choice of hotel accommodations?

Once you have your own priorities in order, you’re ready to choose your hotel accommodations because you know what you want. If price is the single most important factor for you, Priceline allows you to actually bid on hotel accommodations. Also, major travel sites like Expedia and Travelocity, as well as aggregator sites like Kayak, Sidestep, Hotels.com, Placestostay.com, and Bargain Box, can provide you with pertinent information about hotel accommodations in your destination city. But don’t stop there.

Use the search engines to find out what accommodations are available. When you find a hotel, motel, or B & B website that seems to fill your needs, book directly through that website. It’s not written that you must book through travel agencies online or off. Location can be important. The best way to determine the best location of your hotel accommodations is to get a city map (maps of almost all cities are available online) and compare the relationship of the hotel you are considering with the tourist attractions that you plan to go to or to the meeting sites that you’ll need to visit.
