Discount Travel

There is more than one way to travel. You can travel expensive, or you can travel cheap. Those who go the expensive way stay in the best hotels, eat at the best restaurants, and fly at the most convenient times. They are PAYING for convenience. And that’s fine. But there are those of us who want to go further and more often than our budgets allow, so we learn to travel less expensively.

First, let’s talk about getting to the desired location. Did you know that airfares simply aren’t the same all the time not even on the same airline? It’s true. The same airfare on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday is considerably less than on other weekdays. AND airfare for travel between 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM are higher than airfares during early morning or late night hours.

The same thing is true of hotel rates. They vary. The same room that’s $150 on Saturday rents for $89.00 on Tuesday. And you can negotiate lower rates even on weekend days, but not during “tourist season.” For example: the rate for a hotel room on any day of the week is the same (high) near the Disneyland complex during the spring and summer months.

Another thing that those of us who have learned to travel less expensively have found out is that many larger cities offer “passes” for all of the tourist attractions in the city, and these “passes” cost far less than buying tickets for each attraction. You can save a lot of dollars by buying passes.

Those of us who want to go further and more often than our budgets allow have also discovered fast food joints. We can eat breakfast at a fast food drive-through window for less than half the cost of the same food served on a plate in a sit-down restaurant.

There are lots of little “tricks” that we’ve learned to travel less expensively.
