Travel - Hotel Accommodations

The two biggest expenses of travel are transportation and accommodations. Transportation to and from a destination is expensive no matter how you choose to get from where you are to where you want to be. If you travel by private vehicle, the price of gasoline can make your hair stand on end. If you travel by air, the price of tickets can do the same thing. You can shop around for cheaper air fares, and you can shop around for the lowest fuel costs and I’m sure that most people do the best they can to spend as little as possible on transportation.

There is a lot more wiggle room in the price of hotel accommodations than you can imagine. The fact is that hotels need to rent all of the rooms every night or at least as many as possible. Vacant rooms cost hotels money and the owners don’t like that. So the fact is that hotel management would rather rent rooms as a greatly reduced rate than to let them stand empty. That’s a very good thing for your travel budget.

The biggest factors in determining hotel accommodation costs are the days of the week and the months of the year in which you choose to travel. For example, if you choose to travel to Palm Beach on Memorial Day weekend, forget it! You are going to pay dearly for hotel accommodations. There won’t be any cheap seats! On the other hand, if you want to travel to Palm Beach in mid-August on a weekday, there is a lot of wiggle room because there are a lot of vacancies hotels need to fill even at a greatly reduced rate. And weekend rates will be less during months of the year that are not peak season for travel to a particular area.
