Travel - Rent a Yacht

It’s been said that owning a yacht is a lot like throwing money into the ocean. Now those who actually personally own yachts probably do have “money to burn,” but maybe not quite enough to drown. The initial cost of a yacht is between 20 and 30 million dollars. That’s a lot of money! But the initial purchase price is only the beginning. The insurance, maintenance, and operating costs for a yacht 150 feet long or bigger can cost

between $1.2 million and $1.6 million each year. So even the super-wealthy look for ways to cut costs at this level. Their answer? Simple! Let others help pay the cost.

There are those who are wealthy enough to own yachts, but there are many more who only wish they were wealthy enough to own yachts. These people do have a rather large annual income, but still nowhere near the level needed to actually own a yacht. Their answer? Rent a yacht!

Celebrities and others simply rent one of these floating resorts for a week. The cost of renting a luxury lot for a weeklong cruise is between $300,000 and $400,000.

And what, you might ask, do these yacht renters get for their money? Actually, a lot. They get four staterooms with marble bathrooms and an enormous master stateroom that includes his-and-hers dressing rooms and a Jacuzzi, as well as a sitting area and a study. Some yachts have a fully equipped gym, a full-size movie theater, and several bars. Yacht renters have use of the yacht’s gear to go kayaking, scuba diving or to ride a motorized water scooter. The speedboat that comes with most yachts gives renters the options of fishing or water skiing.

For the rest of us mere mortals, there are still yacht rental options. At many beach vacation locations, you will find yacht cruises, many of which are overnight cruises. You will not have exclusive use of the yacht, of course. You’ll be traveling with other vacationers, but the cost of these chartered yacht cruises is not in the same financial league as renting a yacht.
